Luis Alvergue

Controls engineer by training, transportation engineer by trade

About me

My professional work has been split in two, transportation and controls. Although I mostly do transportation work from 8-5, I still like to keep up with the controls field during my free time. These days I’m interested in data-based control and system identification using open source tools. You can find my current resume here.

As a transportation engineer

Most recently I’ve been working on traffic operations using macroscopic models documented in the Highway Capacity Manual, analyzing speed, crash, and origin/destination data for traffic studies, and doing systems engineering analyses for Intelligent Transportation Systems.

As an automatic control engineer

For several years I worked on applying sector bound nonlinearity modeling to fluid flow systems and designing controllers for them. I became very familiar with applied linear algebra for reduced order modeling and convex optimization for controller design, and I did a bit of work aplying these methods to multi-agent systems and communications problems.
